No Victim, No Crime? Adam Kokesh Pleads Guilty To Gun Charges

Per the Washington Post:

Kokesh’s impromptu plea came during an unscheduled hearing in D.C. Superior Court, just two weeks after he pleaded not guilty to the charges and told Judge Patricia A. Broderick that he was exercising his constitutional rights. Kokesh, who had grown a long, thick beard while in custody, said he was replacing his attorney, who had been involved in the case since Kokesh’s arrest.

A trial had been scheduled for Nov. 18, and Kokesh’s supporters had been advocating for jury nullification in his case.

But Wednesday, standing next to his new attorney, Kokesh pleaded guilty to carrying a rifle or shotgun, possession of an unregistered firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. In a separate case, Kokesh pleaded guilty to marijuana possession. Full article, here

I learned first of Adam’s plea and release via a Facebook post by Christopher Cantell“Did Adam Kokesh “Sell Out” By Taking a Plea?” In the comments above the post, Cantwell stated,

Jury nullification, clogging up the courts, these are great ideas, and it’s worth talking about them. The problem is, when you yourself are facing years and decades in prison, it’s usually not a good idea to gamble your life away on them.”

At the moment, his site is not working. I look forward to reading what he has to say when things are back up, and running.

_______

Adam has taken a lot of criticism for his actions. Some have noted his cockiness/arrogance may have been the problem, and the WP article seems to focus on that, as a warning to all who may brag that they got away with something in the police state:

As today’s plea demonstrates, there are consequences for anyone who flagrantly abuses our city’s firearms and drug laws, Machen said.

Reading just a few comments on the coverage of this is quite telling in regard to public opinion. I am mindful that most of these people commenting are part of the “liberty” revolution. It does not seem that the liberal-progressives even know who Adam is, and this is why, IMO, Adam is better for the cause outside of prison than in.

Looks can be deceiving, and he may be a devil in blue jeans, but he seems genuinely kind, and genuinely frustrated. Despite his plea, I am not sure if he will be any more gentle, or predictable, but hopefully he will leverage this overstepping of the police state to his advantage, and continue to bring the message of real hope, real change, and real freedom, to those who have not yet heard.

Just for the sake of venting, some of my Facebook comments:

  • He did not do anything illegal … The U.S. Supreme court ruled the ban is unconstitutinal … ANY ban is, really… “No victim, no crime” … Cantwell will cover this… It seems too Pollyanna in the age of the police state … the NWO is HERE. NOW. It is not on the way, so no need to buy books on how to stop it. As another of my favorite vets likes to say, our task now is to figure out how to live with it … and fight it from this base of knowledge and understanding …
  • A “crime” used to be one law: any act that resulted in harm to another. Now we have endless thousands of laws. Now watering your yard is a crime against your neighbor … and like Gladys Cravitz, people seem to just be waiting for the slightest screw up, so they can beg the state to smite their neighbor over something that does not affect them at all … just about control
  • Agenda 21 cities stack people on top of one another, and get them to seek conformity … in the interest of that dirty phrase, “the common good”… It is a great theory, but it never applies to you, or me, or any individual. It is always this nebulous group of humans that benefit… Right, Spock-aganda?: The needs of the many outweigh the needs if the few… but, many cannot be found. Once we attempt to figure out who the many are, we focus on individuals, whose rights are outweighed by the many. – This lovely thought of helping all of mankind is a way of protecting the State and its corporate whores. That is it. It does not have to be this way, but this is the way it is. Remember that the next time you have a grievance with a neighbor, and run to the police to punish them for non-conformity
  • Uncle Same Wants You! to sacrifice your quality of life, in order to maintain one world religion, and a private, centralized banking system. – In the interest of the common good, maintain your allegiance, even if it requires your annihilation…. In the meantime, “do as thou wilt”, like us … ? When THEY say harm none, they are not referring to us. I wish people got that. We are not part of their definition of people. By “harm none”, they are referring to their own group, and their group does not like us breathing their air, and drinking their water… They would rather see it poisoned than go to us. Yes, they are that crazy…

For whatever reasons, I amglad that Adam is out of jail, at least for now, as he is has the ability to be quite effective with a camera, and a microphone.

Adam!: It’s nice to see that smile, brother. We are all in this together. I wish you the best.

[Edit: Cantwell’s link is working, now … stay tuned]
